Best Korean Movies on Netflix Streaming
Netflix streaming offers many movies from other countries. If you're looking for something different to watch, Korean movies are some of the most unique and entertaining movies I've watched. Here is a list of films from South Korea that you can watch on Netflix instant.
Oldboy
"Oldboy" is a film that will stay with you for a long time after seeing it. A man is kidnapped and imprisoned, drugged and tortured for 15 years with no explanation. After he's finally let out he tries seeks revenge with the help of a waitress he meets. Oldboy is the second movie in The Vengeance Trilogy, three films that deal with themes of revenge, violence and salvation. It is dark, violent and disturbing.
The Chaser
"The Chaser" is an action packed crime drama about an ex-detective turned pimp who is losing his girls. He suspects one of his customers is selling them So when another one of his girls goes missing he decides to investigate on his own to find out who is selling them. Unfortunately the girl had been kidnapped by a sadistic killer.
This movie is one of my favorite Korean movies and I heard they were making an American version. So watch the original Korean version before the American version is made.
Barking Dogs Never Bite
"Barking Dogs Never Bite" is a 2000 dark comedy directed by Bong Joon-ho, director of "The Host," "Memories of Murder" and "Mother." A stressed part time college lecturer gets annoyed at all the neighbors' yapping dogs. He attempts to silence them on his own. The film is funny and at times disturbing. But if you enjoy black comedies you will like "Barking Dogs Never Bite."
I Saw the Devil
The Koreans seem to experts in the revenge films. "I Saw the Devil" is another great revenge film from director Jee-woon Kim. Like other revenge films such as Oldboy or Lady Vengeance, "I Saw the Devil" is very violent and disturbing.
Joo-yun is driving home one night and gets a flat tire. While waiting for a tow truck a man stops and offers to help her. He then kidnaps her and kills her. When her fiancée, Soo-hyun, sees what this man has done he vows to avenge her and find the killer. But when he finds the monster that killed her he ends up becoming a monster himself.
The Host
"The Host" is an excellent monster movie directed by Joon-ho Bong. The monster emerges from Seoul's Hand River and kidnaps a little girl. The girl's family does whatever they can try to rescue her from the monster. "The Host" might be a horror film or monster movie, but it is light and entertaining and even has its funny moments.
